Drusilla Whitcomb Banks, known as Dru, is a florist and the love interest of Seth Quinn in Chesapeake Blue, the final novel of Nora Roberts' Chesapeake Bay Saga.

Overview

The product of a wealthy, well-connected family, Dru has left behind her privileged upbringing to open an independent florist shop in St. Christopher's, craving a life and identity built entirely on her own terms rather than her family's name.

Background

Dru comes from significant wealth and social standing, but rather than relying on those connections, she deliberately set up her business in a small coastal town where she's an outsider with no built-in advantages. Her drive for self-made independence is the defining fact of her introduction to the series.

Personality

Independent, guarded about her past, and drawn to challenges she can't easily resist — traits that make her both a good match and an early source of friction with the equally guarded Seth.

Story Arc

Chesapeake Blue

Dru arrives in St. Christopher's around the same time Seth returns home from Europe as a successful painter. Her quiet reserve and refusal to lean on her wealthy background intrigue Seth, and the two are drawn together even as Seth's biological mother, Gloria DeLauter, resurfaces to threaten the life he's building. Dru and Seth's romance closes out the saga alongside the resolution of the Gloria DeLauter plotline.

Relationships

Seth Quinn

Dru sees in Seth "another kind of challenge" she can't resist — his own guardedness mirroring her determination to be defined by her own efforts rather than her background. Their romance anchors Chesapeake Blue.

Aubrey Quinn

Dru's arrival in town is observed and reported on by Aubrey, Ethan and Grace's sharp-eyed eldest daughter, who works near the boatyard and keeps the family informed of St. Christopher's comings and goings.
