Plot summary

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called to the home office of Larry Chu, a wealthy biotech executive, where she finds him beaten to death with a savagery that seems almost impossible for a single unarmed attacker to have inflicted. The killer is clearly unnaturally strong, and skilled enough to breach Chu's tight security. The extreme violence points Eve toward a personal motive rooted in rage rather than a calculated hit, though she can't rule out money entirely once a suspicious offshore bank account and a shadowy company Chu worked for come into the picture. When it becomes clear Chu wasn't the killer's only target, Eve and her team have to peel back layer after layer of secrecy to find out what's driving the violence.
