Mikhail was born in the Ukraine and was old enough, at the time of the family's escape, to remember it clearly — the fear of his father being taken, the journey through Hungary and Austria, and the relief of arriving in Brooklyn. As a boy he absorbed his father Yuri's carpentry trade, and as an adult he has built a career as both a working carpenter and a respected sculptor, splitting his time between commissioned craftsmanship and his own artistic work.

He is the eldest of the Stanislaski sons, with a younger brother, [[Alex Stanislaski|Alex]], and two sisters, [[Natasha Stanislaski|Natasha]] and [[Rachel Stanislaski|Rachel]].
